Gastroenterologist
Dr Adrian Maher is an interventional gastroenterologist who joined Mater Hill Gastroenterology in 2024. He specialises in diagnostic and therapeutic interventional endoscopy, as well as high-quality screening procedures for the prevention of gastrointestinal cancers.
He graduated from Griffith University with a Bachelor of Medical Science and a Doctor of Medicine, receiving both a University Medal and the Dean’s Medallion as Dux of Medicine. He later completed a Master of Internal Medicine at the University of Sydney. His physician training was undertaken at Toowoomba and Greenslopes Hospitals, followed by specialist training in gastroenterology and hepatology at the Mater and Princess Alexandra Hospitals.
Dr Maher completed a two-year fellowship in interventional endoscopy at the Princess Alexandra Hospital and subsequently undertook an observership at Harvard Medical School, gaining further experience in advanced endoscopic ultrasound techniques, including endoscopically guided liver biopsy, portal pressure measurement and variceal coiling.
He has extensive experience in interventional upper endoscopy and colonoscopy, including the management of Barrett’s oesophagus, complex polypectomy and the endoscopic repair of surgical complications. His practice also includes ERCP, endoscopic ultrasound and the advanced endoscopic management of hepatobiliary disorders.
Dr Maher is a Lecturer with the University of Queensland and is actively involved in research and the teaching of medical students and training doctors. He is a member of the Gastroenterological Society of Queensland and the Gastroenterological Society of Australia.
He consults at the Salmon Building in South Brisbane and performs procedures at the Mater Private Hospital Brisbane and Spring Hill Specialist Day Hospital.
